Do Genital Warts Go Away Over Time?

Do you have genital warts?  If you do, the biggest question on your mind is surely “How do I get rid of them.”  In your quest to find an answer, you’ve probably stumbled across the standard answer that “there is not cure for genital warts.”  Well, this is NOT completely accurate.  There is no ‘man-made’ cure for the virus, but the genital warts can be treated and controlled.

It is important to know that if your warts are left untreated for an extended period of time, they can become cancerous. So it wise to treat your warts as soon as you recognize the problem.

But here’s the good news …

Your body tends to develop its own immunity against HPV and in a matter of years the warts tend to disappear. So if you learn how to control your genital warts with proper treatment, they will fade away over time. HOWEVER, the virus will continue to be in a “sleep mode” inside your body.

Medical treatments like Cryotheraphy, Laser treatment, electrodessication, and surgery are all quite popular ways of treating genital warts.  However, (aside from the first treatment method which means to freeze the warts off) these methods have side effects that can cause your genital warts to get worse and spread.  This is why it is VERY important to listen to your doctor as he or she outlines the side effects.

So to answer the underlying question, genital warts do away with time BUT if you leave them unattended, they can develop more serious issues for your body.
