5 Facts About Genital Warts You Should Know

Most people don’t understand most of the facts about genital warts.  To start with, the spread of genital warts is A LOT more common than what society acknowledges because HPV may take 2-3 months to show any visible symptoms IF it shows any symptoms at all.  This is why you should know these 5 facts about genital warts: 

  1. Genital Warts can be transmitted through Protected sex: Genital warts is an STD.  There is no question about this.  People who change sexual partners frequently are more at risk.  However, usage  of a condom may restrict, but DOES NOT eliminate HPV infection rats.  It all depends on where the site of the infection occurs and if it is covered.
  2. Pregnant women can suffer most from genital warts: Advanced stages of pregnancy degrades the immune system.  Once this happens, the HPV can flare up and spread all the way into the birth channel causing various complications for the mother.  Tests should be conducted to eliminate this possibility
  3. Do you or your partner have genital warts? Are you sure?: Genital warts are difficult to detect.  They are not always visible and they don’t always have the pain and itching associated with them.  The cherry on top is that you may not show any symptoms for 2-3 months after exposure.  This could mean that if you are very sexually active with multiple partners, you may not know who gave it to you. 
  4. HPV infections cannot be cured: Again, HPV cannot be cured.  But genital warts (a symptom of HPV) can be treated.  Talk to your doctor about what your options are.   
  5. Genital warts can come back: If you got rid of genital warts once, they can come back.  This is why you should try to maintain a healthy immune system and try to keep your daily stress to a minimum.
