Pregnancy and Genital Warts

Unfortunately, every year thousands of women who are pregnant have unexplainable genital wart flare ups.  Initially, these outbreaks aren’t as severe; however, as pregnancy progresses, the immunity of the women’s body is lowered and the genital warts begin to manifest and become more severe to the point where they can easily become life threatening for the women and her baby.

If you are pregnant with genital warts, this is a very serious matter – especially if the infection is spreading.  This is because in some cases, the genital warts can spread inside the birth channel and act as a physical obstruction, leading to severe childbirth complications.  In other cases, the mother can pass genital warts directly to the baby, which can lead to warts developing in the baby’s mouth and throat (a condition known as ‘laryngeal papillomatosis’), which is often fatal.

It is extremely important that if you’re pregnant with genital warts, you consult a doctor immediately.  The doctor will review the severity of your condition and either prescribe special medicine or (in more severe cases) surgically remove your warts.

In any case you SHOULD NOT do any self-medication or use any over-the-counter drugs without medical supervision, as this can result to more birth complications.
